Voter Rights and Suppression:

The fight for voting rights began with SNCC’s registration drives, and today’s struggle against voter suppression in places like Georgia and Florida mirrors the challenges SNCC faced in the 1960s.

Organizations like Fair Fight Action continue the work SNCC began in registering and protecting the rights of voters, especially in disenfranchised communities.

Mass Incarceration and Criminal Justice Reform:

The Black Power movement laid the foundation for modern-day movements against mass incarceration and racial profiling, just as SNCC’s activism did in its final years.

The modern fight for criminal justice reform, led by groups like #FreeThemAll and #EndPoliceBrutality, is rooted in the same desire for systemic change that motivated SNCC.

The Black Lives Matter movement, like SNCC, embraces grassroots organizing and direct action. SNCC’s emphasis on youth leadership and community engagement continues to influence today’s activists in the fight against police brutality and systemic racism.
